At the height of their civilization, the scientists of Crypterra discovered a rare and powerful mineral deep within the planet's crust. This mineral, named Tempore, had unique properties that allowed it to be used as a fuel source for temporal engines, machines capable of opening unstable rifts in the fabric of space and time.
The first journeys through these rifts brought such awe as the scientists and explorers of Crypterra discovered alternate versions of their world, each with its own unique landscape and inhabitants. They quickly realized the potential of these travels and began to use them to gather new resources and technology from the alternate versions of their planet.
As the Crypterrians traveled further and further through the multiverse, their technology and knowledge grew exponentially. They evolved and adapted to the various biomes and environments of the alternate versions of their world, becoming a highly advanced and powerful society.
But with great power comes great risk. The scientists pushed the limits of their temporal engines, building ever-larger machines to travel deeper into the multiverse and gather more new resources. They became reckless, and in their haste, they opened a critical rift that caused the planet to twist and warp. Now Crypterra consists of scraps of different versions of itself.
After the catastrophe, the survivors gathered in the last Crypterra colony in the middle of chaos and destruction. It's a relatively small settlement located in a region known as the Sanctuary Valley. It was founded by a group of survivors who were looking for a place to rebuild their lives after the cataclysm. The valley is a relatively safe area, with mild weather and fertile land, making it a perfect location for farming.
The Sanctuary Valley colony serves as a beacon of hope for the people of Crypterra, a reminder that even in the face of overwhelming adversity, it is possible to create a better future. Crypterrians now are determined to restore their world to its former glory, but they knew it was not an easy task. They will need Tempore to recover technologies, but all remains of Tempore minerals were crushed by this warp. Now the only valuable resource was Tempore dust.
Among the survivors were people with completely different backgrounds and they saw different ways of developing humanity and satisfying their own ambitions. As the years passed, the Crypterrians adjusted to the new conditions.
Two decades after cataclysm, the survivors and their ambitions became crowded in Sanctuary Valley. People gathered in groups that conflicted with each other. The conflicts grew stronger and bloodier and set back the Crypterrians in the development and exploration of the new planet. Right before the pivot point, the leaders of the largest factions did not want a massacre and went to an agreement. In Crypterra history, that agreement referred as The Pact.
As the result - the three largest and most conflicted factions - eco-fanatics, hardcore warriors and power-hungry oligarchs - had to leave the Sanctuary valley and set up their camps in the most explored and least dangerous biomes. They signed a non-aggression paper, and the guarantors of this pact were the people who remained in the Sanctuary Valley. People, who loved the new kind of planet and wanted its natural development.
From a single island of hope, the Sanctuary Valley became a hub, a peaceful territory where trade took place, repairing Mechas and storing the technology the Crypterrians had developed before the separation. Anyone could go there and do their own thing - repair a Mech, find a crewmember, trade a find after an expedition.
Mechas are massive machines, designed for exploration, excavation, and transportation. They are not meant for combat and are instead used for peaceful purposes such as traveling between biomes, gathering resources, surveying terrain, and carrying heavy loads.
Each Mecha is equipped with various tools and equipment based on its intended purpose. They are powered by a combination of advanced energy sources and Tempore dust, which allows them to travel long distances between biomes and survive in the magnetic field of Gaps.
Each faction of modern Crypterra works to design and build these machines for their own purposes. Despite all the contradictions, a pact was made between the factions, due to which Sanctuary Valley remained the main center of Mechas. This way, the Valkyries ensure that the exorbitant ambitions of one faction, backed by the power of the Mechas, do not destroy Crypterra to the ground.
Mechas come in various sizes and have different energy capacities, allowing them to travel to different biomes and carry different number of team members, and also resources. The larger ones are used for long-distance expeditions, while the smaller ones are used for more localized tasks.
Of all the innovations in Mecha design, the most important is the Capacitor Core. The technology, developed in pre-decay times, allows to hold the Tempore without harming the team and without risking to create charges of unstable energy.
The importance of the Core cannot be underestimated - the biomes most rich in Tempore are often dangerous and unstable. No one knows what might be lurking deep within the next zone - monsters, anomalies, or fighters from other factions who are unknown to expect, away from the sight of the Valkyries.
